Privacy Policy

Introduction

At Brfly, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our service to instantly publish your research.

Data Collection and Storage

• Accounts: Brfly does not require an account or intentionally collect your name or email address to publish content.
• Shared Content: When you create a shareable link, your Markdown is converted to sanitized HTML. Brfly stores that HTML, its extracted title and description, and creation and expiry times in Cloudflare D1 for 30 days by default. Raw Markdown is not retained. You can:
  • Remove Now: Delete your content immediately.
  • Remove in 24h: Schedule your content to be removed after 24 hours.
  Expired content stops being served immediately and is removed during scheduled cleanup.
• Abuse Prevention: Brfly uses your connection IP address as a short-lived rate-limit key for publish and removal requests. Cloudflare and configured monitoring services may also process technical request data under their own retention policies.

Local and Session Storage

We use localStorage to track the number of times the publish feature is used and to store a page-specific removal capability token. The token is created when you publish, is never put in the page URL or copied share link, and is sent only to Brfly's same-origin removal API when you request removal. D1 stores only a SHA-256 hash of the token, not the raw token.

We also use sessionStorage to store generated links during your browsing session. This allows you to view all the links you’ve created in that session. The stored data is temporary and is cleared when you close your browser.

Error Tracking and Performance Monitoring

We use Bugsnag to capture error and performance data. This allows us to quickly identify and fix issues to enhance the overall user experience. Bugsnag collects technical diagnostics but no personally identifiable information.

Use of Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This data is used solely to understand user behavior and improve our service. No personally identifiable information is collected. For more details, please refer to Google's Privacy Policy.

Your Rights

Brfly does not provide user accounts. You control a published page through the removal capability stored in the browser that created it. Anyone viewing a shared link without that capability cannot use the removal controls. Clearing browser storage removes your local copy of the capability and Brfly cannot recover it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be posted on this page along with an updated effective date.
